In 2014, Brad Prince was the Bridge Crossing Lead on the Owner’s project team and oversaw the development of a reference concept design and draft Design-Build technical specifications for a new ten-lane bridge crossing of the Fraser River. With a main span of approximately 700 m and a total length of approximately 3 km, this proposed bridge crossing would be one of the largest cable-stay bridges in the world and makes up the vast majority of the $3.5 Billion project budget.
Two years later in 2016-17, Brad was the Hatch-McElhanney JV Design Team Risk Manager for pursuit of this project, which was proposed to be delivered as a public-private partnership (P3). Brad provided innovative ideas during design charrettes that allowed the Design-Build Team led by Dragados, AECON, and Flatiron to significantly reduce costs related to traffic management, staging, and construction. Brad also led a Risk Workshop to identify project risks, assign responsibilities, and develop risk mitigation strategies. As a result of this process, many of the risks were dealt with during the pursuit phase, allowing the Design-Build team to more accurately price the work with less contingency.
